ETDP SETA & Ehlanzeni TVET College Coded Welding Skills Programme 2025

Unemployed youth in Mpumalanga can now apply for the ETDP SETA and Ehlanzeni TVET College Coded Welding Skills Programme 2025 — offering R3,000 per month and hands-on welding training.

The ETDP SETA Mpumalanga Provincial Office, in partnership with Ehlanzeni TVET College, has opened applications for the Coded Welding Skills Programme 2025.
This initiative aims to empower unemployed youth by providing practical and theoretical training to prepare them for professional careers as coded welders.


Programme Overview

This six-month programme focuses on developing the technical ability to perform high-quality coded welds that meet strict industry standards. Learners will be trained under a qualified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and will gain practical experience in producing welds that pass visual, non-destructive, and destructive evaluations.

The training also includes health and safety principles, ensuring that learners are equipped to work safely in industrial environments. Graduates of this programme will be well-prepared for employment or self-employment opportunities in the welding and fabrication industry.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Qualification:
    • NCV Level 3 / N3 in Mechanical Engineering or Welding
    • OR Grade 11 with passes in Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Prior welding experience or a basic welding course will be advantageous
  • Must be physically fit with good hand-eye coordination
  • Must not be enrolled in any other programme during training
  • NCV Level 4 or N4 in Mechanical Engineering/Welding or Grade 12 with Maths and Science will be a plus
  • Applicants will undergo a technical assessment

Programme Details

  • Duration: 6 months (theoretical + practical training)
  • Stipend: R3,000 per month
  • Location: Mpumalanga

This training opportunity gives participants both the skills and certification required to enter the welding trade confidently.


Required Documents

Submit certified copies (not older than 6 months) of:

  • South African ID
  • Grade 11/12 results with Mathematics and Physical Science
  • OR Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (NCV Level 3/4) or Welding (NCV Level 3/4) or N3/N4
